    WOW!!!

These 3 new prints are incredible.

The EV is a masterpiece, the Further is one of your best prints yet, and SC is hott to death.

Hope i dont miss a drop while golfing Caledonia and True Blue in Myrtle Beach this weekend.

I like the enormous devouring worm (Conrad The Caterpillar) alot…great accompanyment to the phreakish moth on the new album (and fall tour print.) and the spiderweb trapped moth of the Halloween NOLA print. That lazy old summer sun peeking thru the tree is a great touch as well.

Beautiful! This one has that “magic” of the 1st sustainable festival “Rothbury” written all over it. Too bad the festival itself wasn’t sustained. Love this.

Whoa, went to buy the $4 stickers but balked at the $6 shipping in the USA. $10 total? Is that correct?

  11. marq

Yes, $6 is my minimum shipping, as we ship everything priority mail. Add more stickers and magnets and it will still be $6.

    1. Great Day

🙂 Its a dead-ringer for the place my Man! I spent many a summer of my formative years just North of Rothbury near Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes NP. I ‘spose its just a lucky guess…but the imagery really does look like the Sherwood Forest there in “New Era” Michigan. I’ve hit almost every large festival in America and many, many smaller ones – there is only one Rothbury. I love that sketch – wish it would have been available at the JJRanch! Most Awesome!

FWIW: I rarely purchase a live show cd directly from widespreadpaniclive unless I’ve attended the show AND it was an absolute ripper from start to finish. None of last Summer shows I went to quite fit this criteria but I still HAD to have THIS artwork. I made an exception just this once and purchased the Boston July 24th show since its such a smoker (IMHO: they’ve never quite NAILED a show in Boston before) AND I knew it happened to have this fine Spusta illustration gracing its cover. 🙂 I do have this art as a liner in the DSD double vinyl but the turntable stays at home, studio recordings don’t quite capture the feeling of “being there” and besides, the vinyl’s innerliner doesn’t get seen near often enuff for my liking.

    (From Pitchfork’s Record Review:)

“The specter of loneliness and aging is a through-line here, too, brilliantly visualized by artist Marq Spusta’s gorgeous cover, which shows a pair of fuzzy, unmistakably J-like creatures– one big, one tiny– using a sea monster’s back for an island. (Mascis had a son in 2007.) Though dour, Mascis’ sleeve avatar is also kind of cute. Several Shades of Why gives us that softer, gentler J Mascis. But it’s not kids’ stuff– these are lullabies for adults, offered up with a compassion that doesn’t come easy.”

Sorry for the confusion, it did photograph a bit more on the reddish side, but this is the straight up brown edition. Actual paper is called cappuccino, but I simplified it to brown. It’s much lighter and less red than the main show edition . . . .which is on copper.

    Hi Marq,

We here at Groupie Magazine are a big fan of your work!
We were hoping to feature you in our next issue of Groupie Magazine. Am I able to submit a few brief questions for a quick turnaround? We just want to know things along the lines of what your inspiration behind some of your album covers are (for J Mascis etc) as we are a music publication, and what inspires you, and do you have to listen to an album first in order to create the cover art, that sort of thing.

Let me know if this is a possibility or not to have answers back in the next two days.

    Many thanks.

Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

not trying to be rude. but ive never been informed via email of any of these lotteries. ive simply stumbled in at the right time. im sure u wouldnt be “a little disappointed” if u had scored one.
marq is great for even doing things like this for his fans so i dont think u have much right to complain about the way he handles his business.

im greatful i won this round. but ive not won or not known about them before, i didnt resort to calling out marq’s practices.

What I notice so far –

Pork Soda – Pig drinking down a can of swine
    Tommy the Cat
    Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver
    Frizzle Fry frying pan (yes!)
The Residents – Hello Skinny eyeball
Jerry was a Racecar Driver – Checkered flag
    Skeeter – Skeeter!

I’m curious to know everything else. Like the floating face bubbles. The second pig eating the apple. The hog being held upside down. The bird/egg. What the hell are they all on? I want to say floating the Seas of Cheese but I don’t know.

What I find myself lost on the most though is the little blue dude at the very top but it’s such a nice touch. Someone did their homework or is either already a big fan.

I know Marq usually does not recommend using ebay but someone has some from the show on there and must have bought a few cause there is a listing there for $ Buy it Now for $110 and they have two available and have sold two. I am sure Marq will have these for cheaper and it was a fairly large run.

I agree with everyone here and on Ebeans – this is Marq’s masterwork. However, the order system still has a major problem: Paypal isn’t setup to bypass all the order fields when chosen as payment. Using my example, this poster was in my cart and all systems were go. However, in the 3 minutes that it took to fill in all the fields for ordering, POOF! Empty cart. 🙁

Rick, the 7″ x 7″ screen prints are signed(just updated item to reflect this), the smaller ones are not. There are a ton of varieties, so it’s hard to say how many of each color, etc. In this batch there are about 300 of each print (150 of some of the small ones), but some may get reprinted, like we’ve done with Bliss Bug and Squiddy mini prints. There are many variants where only 5-10 prints of that color exist.

Amazing piece Marq. As a Colorado wildlife biologist and bighorn expert in addition to being a huge Widespread fan, I absolutely am smitten with this artwork. 2. Anna

That’s mean to say man. Marq’s a great guy and even throws in free variants to those that purchase from him, if you happen to be one of the lucky ones that scores a variant. It is bitter when the site goes down and then when it is back up they are gone. But Marq I am sure did not let too many get sold today for that very reason and can be assured it was only one per person but I don’t know for sure. Pretty sure if someone tried to buy two of them then they would have been sent back and by then they would have lost the poster.

I know Marq sold way less then he had planned on today due to the site going down and all.

Is this the case Marq? Did you hold more prints back because of the site being down or was it the same amount of prints/posters that were designated to be dropped today? Answer when you have the time as I am sure you are quite busy right now. Thanks as always for the opportunity and here’s to the lottery drop being a good one.

Do you people always cry like children when things don’t go your way? This quote is hysterical,

“You are a poor excuse for an artist. Nice drop k00k. I see why nobody buys most your shit.”
-wsp (effort scoring poster = creativity choosing handle)

15 minutes prior to this post, this guy was day dreaming of this cool new poster, from one of the better artist in the poster game, all sparkling in the sunshine just placed up on the wall, straightens out the brand new frame one last time, takes a step back and perfect, thinks to self, “Golly, I am so cool, just like my new post……..” and than he snaps out of it, scrabbles to click back to the site that was dropping the sweet poster, but unfortunately by the time he got back to it, he had already maximized & immediately closed so many other web-sites and applications, by the time he arrived at the correct page and hit refresh, guess what…….SOLD OUT!!!!!

It’s cool put that old shitty poster back up on your wall and stop lashing out at other people because of your own inadequacies and failures.

In all seriousness, next time you end up losing out, which I assure you will be sooner than later, instead acting like a child, try to expend the energy that you used crying after this poster drop, in a more positive manner like asking some of us, WINNERS, what we did different to land the poster we wanted? Maybe even go crazy and Google it? All us Winners were once losers like yourself, the difference is we didn’t cry about it, we worked at it and got better, more educated and prepared for next time.

There’s nothing else Marq could have done to make this easier. Any high demand artist’s site will have issues with an online drop- you’re either going to click at the right time or wrong time, it’s all luck. Hey Marq, I’m not talking about the AE being only 95. That makes perfect sense to me. It’s there only being 600 at the show that gets under my skin. Are you saying it was the bands idea to only have 600 at the shows? They should know better!

Everything shouldn’t be such an event at a Panic show. Back in the day if you wanted a show print you just made sure you got it before the music started. It’s only been the last couple years that all the prints at good shows are super limited releases. We already have to freak out when it comes to tickets, why add prints to the fray? Musicians and artist know the demand, so they should print an adequate supply! My 2 cents

If you let the presses run then there’s nothing special about being able to secure the print… If you want one, you gotta do the work…

In my opinion, the prints 10 years ago weren’t nearly as nice as they are now. Don’t get me wrong, JTL’s work was super cool and demand was low, but it was also printed on flimsy poster paper and was easily damaged. As far as tickets go, the only tickets that are hard to get have been La Playa & Wood tour. Apart from those shows, I never have ticket issues. Maybe Red Rocks, but again, you gotta play to win…I got shut out on tix for the denver woods, but still somehow managed to see fridays show, get a Sperry and this wonderful print, and be 5 ft from the stage. Just had to make it happen. No freak outs neccesary. Cheers.

I didn’t notice this either as i was trying to make a purchase as quick as possible so if it was there at that time i must have missed it. Thought it said “if you miss out on this sale, or want to try for a rare variant, check back next week for more info on the lotto.”

Marq don’t let the “wsp” guy get you down. That’s just Chris Sessom or Charity Dees. Google them, convicted felons awaiting trial for a vehicular fatality who buy art prints and flip for profit. Glad the k00ks got shutout

Got this one back from the framers this past weekend. Looks great. I will post some pics to FB this weekend Marq. Squiddy, Open Eyes, and Hellhound will be ready friday, & Denver Wood, Antlorius, and World of pure imagination are due to be picked up on the 6th. I will have a hallway devoted to your stuff. Pics to follow 🙂

I’m looking for a Tweek t-shirt. My preference would be a big Tweek on the back and a little Tweek on the front left pocket area, with all around ‘bubble creatures”. What say, Marq? I know you can make it happen 🙂

Is it possible to buy with an iPad? I couldn’t find the link. I was shut out of la playa because of this device.

  396. HighPlanesDrifter

Sierra, should be no problem at all. I don’t believe Jeff sold the La Playa prints yet. Also, if you’re referring to the original on-sale for those tickets – they were in high demand. I’ve never met a single fan of the band that wasn’t trying to nab those!

Got my AE today and it is a beauty. What was even more beautiful was the 10/15 Old Gold variant that was in the tube!! My wife is gonna kill me when she finds out how much $$ I just spent on getting the old gold framed.

Hi Marq. I’m fairly new to your site and the process you use for things like the lotto tomorrow. Is there a place where I can sign up for the lottery? This is my last hope for one of these beautiful AEs so I don’t want to screw it up. Thanks!

Also…I can spell your name correctly Marq. Last but not least I have 7 of your prints framed and hanging in all areas of my house and there’s this one spot left that’s screamin’ for ths baby. Joking aside, thanks for putting this lotto on for all of us…we really appreciate you doing this! word

A few of the lotto winners did not follow the rules of one entry per person, so some of the prints have freed themselves up….new winners for the few left over prints will be selected next week. In the meantime we put up an extra WP Wood Birch on ebay with half of the proceeds going to the Nature Conservancy.

Just picked up my “old gold” variant from the post office this morning! Can I just tell you Marq, awesome! I’ve got a ton of posters and prints and this by far one of the best! Tied for my favorite in my collection! Maybe off to framing shop, but I think I’m going to make the actual frame myself out of driftwood. Should be epic when done! Thanks a million for such a beautiful print! Oh yea, 5 of 15! Sweet

Must have! Can’t wait for ‘on sale’ and possible lotto info!!!! Short- haired needy people need not apply 😉 ..Nothing against short haired peeps but if you read those terrible comments then you know what I mean. So pumped for this soon to be “gold on my ceiling”!!!!

      1. Alicea

What I meant was that the image appeared to be a lion when I first looked at it from a distance and the picture was small. The wings of the birds were the face of the lion with the feathers being the mane. A bit out there I know, but makes for a nice optical piece from different focal lengths

I would think that keeping it smaller then the 18″ by 24″ because i believe the orginal is a square and has a size of 5×5 or 6×6? Could certainly be wrong with those measurements but i think keeping it square with maybe a 10′ by 10′ or 12 by 12′ but your the artist and you would know best.

The ones available at the show were either signed by Marq for $40 or signed by Marq & Primus for $100(I think). The Primus signed ones were a benefit(for Les’ nephew) and I wouldn’t think were going to be available from Marq direct. Also, the ones signed by just Marq sold at the show were pre-rolled/tubed and were handled a bit rough. Here’s hoping the one’s from Marq’s website sale come minty fresh

Thanks much. Dogfish Head did print up some 24″ x 18″ litho posters of this, along with 11″ x 8.5″ sheets. We only have a few of these, but for the first few people that comment with interest, we can send you an invoice for $50 to get Tweason’ale print pack.

Would love a black rebirf. I need a variant so i can enter the next frame up contest. I already have a crazy plan for it. thanks

  625. Joshua

All three of these are simply phenomenal looking prints! Narrowing it down to one is somewhat of a Sophie’s choice, but if pressed, I’d choose the Black variant. Keep up the great work!!! Anything new on the horizon with Dogfish? Maybe the American Beauty/Grateful Dead collaboration?

    Got the Black
    Got the Ruby
NEED the Crystal for the win…..

It is said by one person i know that the Crystal is not as impressive as the black or ruby, i think it looks incredible from what i have just seen, but then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Great work Marq, proud of ya. 🙂

    ‘My Girl, Crystal’

This girl, she gets down, down…right close to the ground

Like a glob of silly puddy, she bounces back up with some sound

She digs her collection of prints, but she finds it difficult to list all

But to add her favorite Spustal print; Crystall

She’d spend the next few days orchestrating this frame-up

This unique piece would be hung with the rest, where they’d be all jealous, like “shud up”

…in short, jealousy sucks unless you’ve got crystal in the house. All bets are off

    Thanks again Marq

just have to know marq, is the concept sketch for panic a spring tour poster or St Louis possibility? Very fitting theme with the old caterpillar from the 2010 prints giving/growing new life after the hiatus. Lets regrow the love that this band/artist gives off for another great year of music. F**K YEAH! Much love and good luck to all the fans above of this great artist. no print requests this time around, just wide SPREAD the love around.

We really need a large AE version considering what happened to the majority of these at the shows. If TBC damaged them, why should the fans suffer and fans of this excellent art. They should pay to run another batch and put them up here. I would assume they were insured?

Drug her to the show, and after jazzfest when asked her favorite show of the weekend, her reply “my hearts still smiling. The crowes hands down”. I wanna pay it forward and give her a poster, but also need one for my wall! Please release a artist proof. Did you get that email from Charles Dart explaining the mix-up and how orders were taken after the edition sold out? It caused a delay of the last 100 prints I think and those of us who had to wait for things to settle down at Musictoday got the handbill as a sort of apology.

      Here’s that message:

      Dear Jerry Fan,

We wanted to update you on the issues here at Musictoday related to your order of the Jerry Garcia “Bed of Roses” poster by Marq Spusta. The “Bed of Roses” poster officially sold out as of 1:00 pm EST on April 20th. Due to an inventory management error, an additional quantity of posters was inadvertently offered for sale on April 22nd. While all orders from the 22nd of April were refunded, the shipments remained in our system and many were delivered to customers who were not entitled to receive a poster. The result was a significant delay in the shipment of your order. We are very happy to report we have resolved the issue to be best of our means and have located a poster from the edition of 420 to fill your order.

Your order containing one poster will be shipping no later than Friday this week. hi there-
i’m a huge fan of your art, and was at this tour’s stop in portland oregon and even bought the poster. in my move across country a few years later, my collection was damaged to the point that nothing could be recovered. is there any way to purchase another copy of this? it was my favorite. thank you for your art, it touches a lot of people.

    best,

Marq will not be in attendance for this show, but many of his prints, mini prints and variants will be. This P.O.P. show is on the same day at the TRPS Poster Show in San Francisco. Marq will be running his TRPS poster booth on October 19th. Now, is there a diehard Spusta fan out there who can 1-up Marq and attend both shows?

A few golds may also go in random Spusta Studio orders, as they also did with the main edition orders. I’m sure there are a few more out there, besides what’s on EB.

Will we need to have an Account set up in the Shop in order to checkout or can we do so as a guest and not lose our items in our cart?

    Reply
    1. Spusta Gnome

      Mike T.
You do not need an account to check out. You can do PaypalExpress Checkout. It may save a second or two to go through an account to checkout. Customers do tend to lose things in the cart when there’s a mad rush . . . that’s just kind of been the way the cookie has crumbled. I welcome any customers to add to this reply with their experiences….

I signed up for an account and then tried to check out using PayPal but it all crashed. then I heard it was working best to use a credit/debit card. oh well, still very fortunate to win the grand fazooli tube (which included a black scarab)…just wanted to pay it forward and purchase a Bed of Roses AE.

Whoa….the Shop just got pounded. We realize there were some issues, and apologize to those that missed out because of them. The gnomes at the studio tried making some purchases and had issues with the Paypal Express checkout as well.

A few of the items couldn’t handle the intensity of purchasing, and more inventory was let out than intended. The Crystalized Scarab likely oversold a bit…. a few of you may need to accept a Gold one instead. The Garcias and Panic Green also oversold, but we’re hoping we can honor all those orders…but “after sale” random invoices will be minimal.

Thanks again, we’re doing our best over here….

Will their be any other editions like an artist edition released later or is the lottery going to be the only way to get this print at all in any edition? Thanks

    Reply
    1. Spusta Gnome

John, thanks for the question. To clarify, there is an edition of 280 for each night and an triptych uncut edition of 120 on metallic paper. There is not a Artist Edition. There will be some of the singles and uncuts available in the lottery.
